When asked what people notice first about other individuals, it’s frequently, “Their smiles!” A healthy and beautiful smile is always a welcome sight! A wholesome and attractive set of teeth can also give dentist professionals an idea about your general health. Poor oral hygiene can lead to problems such as oral and facial pain, gum disease and a variety of mouth infections that can necessitate significant remedial dental procedures and negatively influence major organs of the body.
That’s why practicing good oral hygiene and seeing a prosthodontist when you need to is so important for people of all ages. The state-of-the-art practice of Derrick Williamson DDS MS PC and our skilled professionals are dedicated to keeping your teeth and gums in tip-top shape.
Here are easy habits that support good oral health.
Brush twice a day, and with a soft-bristled brush.Keep it up forat least two minutes, and use American Dental Association-approved fluoride toothpaste.
Floss every day.The stringy stuff removes plaque and food particles from places your toothbrush can’t reach, such as under the gum line and in the crevices between teeth.
Replace your toothbrush. Use a new one every three or four months or if the bristles are worn before then, as soon as possible.
Visit the dentist regularlyfor cleanings and exams. This is one of the most effective ways to detect the early signs of gum disease.
Limit your consumption of soda, coffee and alcohol. Too much of any of those beverages can weaken enamel and cause tooth decay.
Drink milk. “Moo juice” has calcium, which strengthens teeth and builds up enamel.
Take daily doses of vitamins C and D. These nutrients help support the absorption of healthy mouth minerals such as calcium and phosphorous, which support the bone and gum tissue. Ask your doctor how much your daily dose of each vitamin is right for you.
Don’t use cigarettes, vapes, chewing tobacco or smokeless tobacco. They contribute to gum disease and oral cancer.
